About
Wayne McGovern is the proprietor of “rabbitsandhutches.com”. Wayne has been breeding rabbits for over thirty years and has built up a consideral knowledge over that period of time. He has discovered that rabbits, unless housed in suitable sized housing, can live a miserable live. He also discovered the lack of suitable sized housing available on the Irish market, and this inspired him to set up his own business, source the correct size quality products and to retail them at competitive prices.
Most “rabbit hutches” sold in pet shops throughout Ireland are totally unsuited for rabbits and are only adequate to house Guinea pigs or ferrets. Not all, but most pet shops know this and are only too happy to sell these as “rabbit hutches” for two reasons. First they do not take up much room to store them in their shop, and two, they make just about the same profit on the smaller hutch as they do from the proper sized one.
The proper size hutch suitable for one rabbit is 4Ft long, 2ft wide, and importantly 2ft high. This is the minimum size required for one rabbit, obviously bigger is better.
Rabbits, by nature are inquisitive, and like to stand up on their rear feet and look around. In doing so, they are exercising muscles that can not be exercised in a hutch with a height of less than 2ft. All hutches sold by “rabbitsandhutches.com” meet these requirements and are sold with a free wind and rain protection cover that will not only protect your rabbit, but will also protect the food, bedding and the lifespan of the hutch. Given the proper environment, proper sized hutch, correct food, fresh water and clean living quarters, most rabbits will stay healthy and live a long and happy life.
Over the last thirty years, Wayne has bred many different breeds of rabbits but today only breeds lop eared rabbits. ” I just find the lop eareds are the friendliest breed of rabbit in the world, they just love attention and love to be petted, and are wonderful with children. I have bred smaller breeds of rabbits such as the Netherland Dwarf, but found in a lot of cases they are quite skittish, will bite and do not like being handled. The type of lop that I breed (mini lop) is quite small anyway but extremely placid by nature.
